Ballad
Down in the South where the rivers wind,
A boy named Forrest, sweet and kind.
With braces bound, yet spirit free,
He’d chase his dreams from land to sea.
“Run, Forrest, run!” the voices cried,
Through fields of green and far outside.
The world was wide, yet he stayed true,
To love and life, and all he knew.
Jenny sang beneath the sky,
A fleeting star, her wings to fly.
But Forrest stayed, his heart held fast,
For love eternal, through the past.
A shrimp boat’s sails, the tide’s embrace,
Bubba’s promise he’d not erase.
Through war and peace, he walked his fate,
A steady heart, no room for hate.
A son, a bench, the feather’s glide,
The tale rolls on like the endless tide.
For life, he’d say, is a box of sweet,
Each step a rhythm, the world’s heartbeat.
